JPG and JPEG are identical image formats. There is no distinction between a .jpg image and a .jpeg photo — they both employ exactly the same JPEG encoding method and store photos in the same way. The sole distinction is purely in the extension, being a relic from early computer history. JPEG was introduced in 1992 by the Joint Photographic Exp
